Time To Get Manly 37: Explosions in the Sky - The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place

I randomly ran across a list of what Esquire magazine claims are "The 75 Albums Every Man Should Own." In this series of posts, I'll explore these manly, manly sounds.

Explosions in the Sky - The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place

Though I try to fight it, I can't hear Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" without picturing Elmer Fudd. Similarly, I can't hear anything by Explosions in the Sky and not immediately think of Friday Night Lights. But really, what's more manly than music forever associated with a television show about football? The band's emotive, sprawling instrumentals offer the perfect soundtrack for when your girlfriend wants to have a serious talk about "where things are going." She'll think your show of emotion is relationship-related when in fact you're just mentally reliving the tragic struggles of Jason Street. That poor kid could have had everything. What a fucking tragedy.
