Time To Get Manly 32: Townes Van Zandt - Live at the Old Quarter, Houston, Texas

I randomly ran across a list of what Esquire magazine claims are "The 75 Albums Every Man Should Own." In this series of posts, I'll explore these manly, manly sounds.

If you're not familiar with Townes Van Zandt, you should probably go buy this record and watch the 2004 documentary Be Here To Love Me. It's possible that you'll then find yourself consumed both by the power of his music and the unfairness that he never got the success he deserved during his lifetime. Live at the Old Quarter not only features his best known songs, but you're also treated to his witty onstage banter. It's the perfect combination of tragedy and comedy. The people who squeezed into that tiny venue during his stint at the Old Quarter are lucky, lucky bastards.
