The album cover combined with the title This is Hardcore may lead you to think the subject matter of this record is all sexy fun times. But that's misleading. Because the ground covered here is the realization that life is one giant ball of fear, anxiety, mistakes, missed opportunities, dashed hopes, monotony, embarrassment, old age and then death. Sexy fun times times infinity! It is a testament to Jarvis Cocker's lyrical prowess that this record is incredible because of and not in spite of the sobering subject matter.
