Blood and a single gun shot

There's a brand new Wonder Twins up on the Metro Times Music Blahg for your reading pleasure. Chances are you're still kicking yourself for missing Barry Manilow when he was in Detroit last weekend. Lucky for you, reading the Wonder Twins account of the show is almost like being there! So go do that!

Wonder Twins: Justin Bieber Never Say Never

New Wonder Twins in yesterday's Metro Times. Oh, the things we do for you people... This time we went to see the Justin Bieber 3-D concert movie video film Never Say Never. You know, for the lulz. This is apparently now the top grossing concert film in US history or some such? Well, just wait until the remastered director's cut of the Barry Manilow Special from 1977 is re-released in theaters. Then shit's gonna change fast...Italic

Wonder Twins: Winter Fling... A Craft Thing @ AJ's Music Cafe 12/11/10

Today's Metro Times includes another installment of the Wonder Twins - this time we went to Winter Fling... A Craft Thing where we looked at crafty wares, bought some cool locally made gifts and for the first time "interviewed" some folks for the column. I feel it necessary to put that word in quotes since D'Anne possesses no journalistic integrity. Just kidding. (No I'm not.)

Wonder Twins: A.R. Rahman's Journey Home World Tour

New Wonder Twins in today's Metro Times. This time we went back to the Pontiac Silverdome for the make-up date of A.R. Rahman's Journey Home World Tour. The original date, back in June was cancelled when the entire stage collapsed. Like, collapsed. Looking at the stage - which you can do by using your eyes and directing them toward the two photos below (taken by Jamie "My Cellular Telephone Is Awesome" Hornsby) - you can imagine, if all of that came crashing down, that it might be a pretty big catastrophe. Thankfully, there were only a few minor injuries. But it was only a couple hours before show time, and virtually everything on the stage was destroyed. Scary. SPOILER ALERT: The stage did not collapse this time.

Wonder Twins: India Day Celebration at Rock Financial Show Place

New Wonder Twins in today's Metro Times... If you hate Elizabeth Gilbert, you should read it. Actually, if you love Elizabeth Gilbert, you should read it. Because she is terrible. And you're going to have to learn this sooner or later. Might as well be now.

The Wonder Twins go see a play. Like civilized people.

New Wonder Twins in today's Metro Times. This time we decided to go see a PLAY. You know, get some CULTURE. Learn about LIFE through the ART of ACTING.

But then we decided all that was pompous and lame and decided to go to the Ringwald to see
Code Foxy: Man Down. Yes, it's a play, but it's void of culture. So you'll be safe. It is playing again this coming weekend. So go see it.

Wonder Twins: Modernlull, Pink Lightning, Ghost Heart @ The Berkley Front

New Wonder Twins in yesterday's Metro Times. If you had any interest in reading it, you probably already did that... you know... yesterday. But to "sweeten the pot" as grandmas like to say (or is it rappers?) here are a couple photos of Modernlull from that night, taken by Jazzy Hornsby:

Good times!

Wonder Twins: Detroit Rocker Chicks Take on Arena Rock at Public Pool

This week's Metro Times has another installment of The Wonder Twins. We went to a tiny gallery in Hamtramck and watched ladies musically geek out over arena rock. Considering our love for (um, well mostly D'Anne's love for) hair metal and (ok, both our love for) things so uncool they're cool again, it's no surprise that we very much enjoyed this. And I am excited to see what the little art space called Public Pool has in store for Hamtramck. I am hoping more interesting events like this - and that those interesting events continue the trend of having awesome coolies. The cookies in the picture were available at the event courtesy of Pinwheel Bakery. It's like having a wrestler in your mouth. Yup.

Wonder Twins: Drive-By Truckers & Langhorne Slim

This week's Metro Times features a new installment of the Wonder Twins... This time around we check out Drive-By Truckers and Langhorne Slim at St. Andrew's Hall. A special thank you to Kirk at Motor City Blog for his help in getting us into the show. A rare example of somebody just being "nice to be nice." An act I thought was a myth. You know, like that whole Marilyn Manson removing some of his ribs so he could blow himself thing.

Wonder Twins: Tegan and Sara

New Wonder Twins in today's Metro Times. This time we go to a Tegan and Sara concert. Full twin-on-twin action here.

On an unrelated note, The Drive-By Truckers are coming to St. Andrew's on April 8th - the day before my birthday. Do I want to go? YES! Will I pay Live Nation a $9 service charge on a $20 ticket. No. In fact I'd rather miss the show completely. Which makes me sad. But principles and stuff. That's fucking robbery.

Also, the Buzzcocks are coming to that very same Live Nation venue on Morrissey's birthday. Tickets are $15 and go on sale Friday. How much will the service charge be for this show? Stupid Live Nation a-holes. I feel apoplectic. I need to take up yoga or something.

Wonder Twins: Blowout 13 Wednesday March 3rd Pre-Party

The newest issue of the Metro Times hits stands today, and it's filled with post-Blowout recaps, including this one by the Wonder Twins, the title of which suggests the anatomically impossible.

Wonder Twins: Women: A Celebration of Art & Culture @ the Crofoot

If you didn't get your estrogen fix last Saturday at the Women: A Celebration of Art & Culture, you can get a taste of what you missed via this week's Wonder Twins. If you did, you can relive moments of the evening through the eyes of these very special ladies. You can also play a game called, "How many times did the Wonder Twins use the word 'vagina' in this week's column?" (Answer: Lots of times, though, "No more than any other column" is also an acceptable response).

It was a really nice event, and Phreddy Wischusen should be proud of his little lady brainchild. My only complaint was that more than once during the evening, the music being played in between sets via compact disc started to skip. And skip. And skip. And nobody immediately stopped it. I don't think there is a sound in the world that makes me more violent than that of a CD on the fritz when nobody with the power to stop it taking notice. It's like psychological torture. I know people get busy and wrapped up on stuff, but this seems to happen a lot at restaurants and stores etc. Knock it off, please.

If I've riled you up, check out these Post-Its that look like tiny blades of grass. It will relax you.

Wonder Twins at the WAB

Jewish porn and sexting raspberry blondes. Just another night for the Wonder Twins...

Also, this video is from that very show. The song is even referenced in our piece. Such accidental artistic synergy is so rare these days. Don't worry - you are losing nothing in sound quality here. This is exactly what it sounded like if you were there. I believe that YouTube is telling me that Trever Long took this video. Or somebody who stole his identity.

Wonder Twins: The show in Angela's basement

I was going to post this yesterday, but I was afraid if I allowed myself to write anything here I'd just go off on a blind rage filled political rant. And frankly, there are enough really good ones all over the webz for me to bother.

But yes. Pre-my giving up on the Democratic Party due to their ability to squander every single opportunity to show political courage every single time such an opportunity is presented, we went to a show in some girl's basement. We then wrote about it. The world was a different place back then. Never forget.

Wonder Twins: 2009 Pop Culture Recap

Are you sick of reminiscing about the long since passed 2009? Me too! Bomb it already! But first - this week's Metro Times has the Wonder Twins '09 recap. So read it, reflect, then set 2009 on fire. 2010 is gonna be GREAT right?!*

*Does anybody actually believe this?

Wonder Twins: Detroit Derby Girls

The Wonder Twins have had some excellent adventures (No time travel though - not yet at least.) over the past year, but attending our first Detroit Derby Girls bout was a definite highlight. These girls are awesome. Read our account and then go buy tickets to their next bout. Actually -that would make a perfect Holiday gift for that hard-to-shop-for loved one. Get 'em tickets to something really awesome that happens right here in Detroit. But buy them now, or else they'll sell out and you will be forced to make some of those "Good For One Hug - Expiration: NEVER!" coupons. Those were kind of cute when you were five, but now that you're a grown ass adult, put the glitter and glue away. Seriously. Virtually anybody on your shopping list would rather have one of those teeny tiny bottles of Jack Daniels. Which, come to think of it, is a lot like giving them a hug they can put in their purse.

Wonder Twins and The Twilight Saga: New Moon

This week's Metro Times features the latest installment in the adventures of the Wonder Twins. This time around, we take on The Twilight Saga: New Moon. If you are in vampire love with these books and movies, you may be offended by our opinions and wry observations. But that's okay because it'll give you another reason to lock yourself in your room and cry into your Edward pillow. Because that's all you want to do anyway.

Wonder Twins: Fiery Furnaces, Dent May and Cryptacize at the Magic Bag in Ferndale 11.11.09

It was kind of a toss up as to what show we'd end up covering for the Wonder Twins column this week, but with both D'Anne and I fighting off colds and (in D'Anne's case) a possible kidney stone, seeing this show at the Magic Bag was an obvious choice. Why? No smoke. Plus, a pretty sweet line up. But mostly, the lack of smoking. So to the Magic Bag we went.

I love going to shows, but the smoking thing keeps me from going out as often as I would like. I really wish more venues would consider going smoke free - even just for a couple of nights a week. There's all this talk about people not going out to shows and how to fix that, and I have no idea what the answers are. But I do know that a show at a smoke filled room that doesn't even start until 10pm on a weeknight is very unlikely to make my "must attend" list at this point. It just becomes such a chore. Getting home super late, having to take a shower and wash all the clothes my girlfriend and I were wearing (and if it's cold, that includes coats - this can equal a whole load and a half of laundry!) and waking up the next day tired with a raspy throat and sore eyes. Just thinking about it exhausts me. Sometimes a show looks great, but I think to myself, "gee, I'm already behind on laundry." Then I stay home. I don't think I'm alone. Possibly the only one uncool enough to admit it, but I can't be the only one.

Reasonable (and consistent!) door and start times and no smoke. I have a hard time believing these are totally impossible and radical ideas. And it seems to be working for other cities so it couldn't hurt to try it here, right? If other things are not working (and it seems like they're not), maybe it would be worth a try.

Oh! Also, this is tomorrow. It should be awesome, and I would love to see you there.

Wonder Twins: Detroit Urban Legends Haunted House

This week the Wonder Twins go to a haunted house. But not just any haunted house - one that raises dollars for charity while scaring you. And by "you" I mean "me." Unlike my brave, brave sister, I somehow have this thing where my brain isn't able to separate "entertainment" from, "you are in grave danger - harm is imminent." This makes me pretty hesitant to agree do do anything like a haunted house trip, but I'm a good sport and took one for the Wonder Twins team. Go ahead and read the results and laugh at my expense.

After you're done reading it, I urge you to actually GO to the Detroit Urban Legends Haunted House - yes, yes - you'll say, "but my Halloween weekend is already SO jam packed!" But trust me - you can still fit this in. It is running Friday and Saturday and starts at 7pm. Nothing you're going to starts until at LEAST 10pm, and most things probably won't get started until like, 2:30am because the cool kids don't sleep. Apparently ever. So go there first, have some fun and raise money for something worthwhile. It is only $10 and will make up for the guilt you'll feel about the hundreds you spent on your costume, only to find out that nobody in your age group even remembers the Noid.
